FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 28, 1998
David B. Robinson, CPA was the guest of ten editors and writers of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Journal of Accountancy magazine recently at the organization’s New York City offices.
Mr. Robinson was one of seven CPAs to be invited to attend the magazine’s Small Firm Roundtable seminar to discuss issues facing small public accounting companies. He was the only CPA from the South invited. The editors and writers of the Journal of Accountancy formed the panel in order to lead and observe discussions among sole practitioners to better select topics for articles for the magazine and to design editorial policies.
Among the issues that were discussed were the areas of forming strategic alliances with other small firms, professional fees, maintaining target markets, marketing to the public, the use of technology, the decreasing emphasis on a national basis of tax preparation as a standard component of a CPA’s repertoire, staffing, mergers within the industry and the future of “generalists” (versus “specialists”).
Mr. Robinson had been profiled in the May 1997 issue of the magazine in an article about the evolution of his firm’s Web site, www.greatcpa.com. He has become a recognized authority on the management of small accounting practices because of the growth of his own company from five clients in 1990 to 700 in 1998. Mr. Robinson was recently selected as the 1998 U. S. Government’s Small Business Administration Accountant Advocate of the Year for Virginia. His company was a finalist in Inc. magazine’s 1997 Marketing Masters award contest.
The Journal of Accountancy, with a worldwide circulation of 330,000, is a monthly publication of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the premiere professional membership organization for CPAs.
