FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 29, 2003

The accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA is pleased to announce that it was recently selected as a finalist for two awards given by The Richmond Human Resources Management Association (RHRMA), a not-for-profit association dedicated to the education, support and professional development of human resources professionals, as well as enhancement of the human resources profession in general. It serves members in Richmond, Virginia and its surrounding areas. All of its members also belong to an international parent organization, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The RHRMA has approximately 1,000 members.

David B. Robinson, CPA, was chosen to be one of only seven finalists for The Richmond Human Resources Management Association’s 2003 Employee Development Award. As a finalist for this award, the accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA was cited by the RHRMA as having “developed a scholarship program that relies on mentoring and a continuous ‘give back’ mentality. It was very loosely structured and would work well for an individual who could increase and decrease the time commitment as his or her job allowed.” Other finalists were Barber Martin Advertising, Bon Secours Richmond Health System, Chesterfield County-Chesterfield University, the City of Richmond, First Market Bank and Virginia Credit Union. Barber Martin Advertising and Chesterfield County-Chesterfield University were selected as the winners of the award in the small and large employer categories, respectively.

David B. Robinson, CPA was also selected as a finalist for a second award. It was chosen to be one of only eight finalists for the 2003 Innovative Practices Award. The RHRMA cited the accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA to be recognized as a company that “delivers a unique fire prevention versus fire fighting approach to its passionate client service. In addition, the firm provides internships, work-studies and scholarships.” Other finalists were Anthem, Bon Secours Richmond Health System, the City of Richmond, Philip Morris USA, SunCom, The University of Richmond-School of Continuing Studies and the Virginia Lottery. Philip Morris USA was chosen as the winner of the award. “I was very excited to learn of our selection as a finalist for not one, but two awards,” said David Robinson, the principal and founder of the accounting and business consulting firm David B. Robinson, CPA. “The fact that a very small company was selected to be recognized with entities that have, in some cases, tens of thousands of employees, proves that you don’t have to be big to be innovative and competitive in your target market. To be considered to be in the same category with companies like Philip Morris USA, First Market Bank, Anthem and SunCom legitimizes everything I have always tried to do to mentor and develop future entrepreneurs.”

Of being selected as a finalist for the 2003 Employee Development Award, Mr. Robinson stated “over the years I’ve been so fortunate to be able to lead some exceptionally gifted, both personally and professionally, students into the business world and, often, into the accounting profession. I’ve been so blessed to travel with young people while they learn about entrepreneurialism under my tutelage. Sometimes the ‘highs’ of becoming so close to my staff have been tempered with some horrible ‘lows’ that have hurt a lot, but I have loved my journey to mentor the next generation and wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

Of being selected as a finalist for the 2003 Innovative Practices Award, Mr. Robinson stated “when I founded my firm in 1990, I overtly stated in my mission statement that I would be ‘Virginia’s most ‘passionate’ accountant.’ People, especially my rivals in the marketplace, looked strangely upon me. I really think that I have set a standard in my particular target market area of what to expect from a service professional--excellence, passion and enthusiasm. The fact that I was recognized by the RHRMA as the only non-publicly traded, non-governmental entity to be chosen a finalist tells me that maybe I have succeeded in growing a company that can be recognized as a leader in how they do what they do in their own particular target market, no matter how big or small it is.

The accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA was founded in 1990 by David Robinson with five clients. The firm has over 1,150 today with three offices and four employees and is the largest accounting firm in Midlothian. Mr. Robinson was the 1998 U. S. Government’s Small Business Administration’s Accountant Advocate of the Year for Virginia. In 1999 and 2000 he was an Editorial Adviser to the JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTANCY. He was, in 2002, selected by VIRGINIA BUSINESS Magazine as one of the "Top 100 CPAs in Virginia.” The firm’s website, www.greatcpa.com, has won national awards.

Mr. Robinson is the host and creator of The Entrepreneurs’ Hour Radio Show™, a live radio show that aired 280 episodes from 1998 to 2002 on several different Richmond radio stations. The show does not air at-present on any Virginia station. In January 2003, Mr. Robinson‘s company, the largest accounting firm in Midlothian, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond, published a small 56 page booklet "Tales, Ideas, and Quotes From a greatcpa™ .” The booklet was an effort to inspire young people (14 to 25) about entrepreneurialism. The firm has recently published “MORE Tales, Ideas, and Quotes From a greatcpa™,” a collection of short stories written by Mr. Robinson and his staff, which will be released in August.
