FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUST 21, 2004

The accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA, headquartered at 14111 Midlothian Turnpike in the Historic 1850s Ivymont Manor House in Midlothian, Virginia has announced that it has opened a new satellite office at 434 Grove Avenue in Old Towne Petersburg.

In announcing the opening of the satellite office, David Robinson, the firm’s principal, said, “Opening in Petersburg will allow me to better serve the clients that I have in Southern Chesterfield, Ettrick, Petersburg and—in general—Southside Virginia. I cannot understate how excited I am that I have a new office in Petersburg—right in the middle of one of the oldest and most historic business districts in the United States.”

Robinson said that he has “always thought that any successful company should use their resources to promote the revitalization of depressed or underdeveloped areas. This has always been my philosophy with the establishment of satellite offices. This time, in particular, Petersburg needed me.”

The firm’s new office is located in at the corner of Grove Avenue and Cross Street in a very early Nineteenth Century (ca. about 1825) brick building. Robinson performed a minor renovation of the office space contained in the building in July 2004. Originally, the building was a store below and a dwelling above. A service wing to the rear to enlarge the space was added shortly after its construction.

In about 1880, the building’s front eaves were retrimmed and double parlors were added to the dwelling above. In the Twentieth Century, a wing was added to the east to form a stair hallway and the upstairs was converted to residential apartments that still are in use today.

Robinson continued, “The Petersburg satellite office will be a very interesting place to create opportunities for people. The office is considerably larger than the Downtown Richmond satellite office was and is in a much more professional setting. We have excellent parking and good access for the disabled.”

The primary purpose of the Petersburg office will be to serve existing clients in Southern Chesterfield and Southside Virginia as well as to provide a base of operations for working with clients who are renovating or restoring properties in the City of Petersburg.

“Petersburg is an open-air classroom for clients who desire to receive real hands-on professional advice about restoring commercial and residential properties and receiving tax credits. Being able to professionally advise clients about things that I have done myself has always been a hallmark of the way that I have done business. The fact that I will be a CPA firm that specializes in working with people restoring and/or renovating buildings and am located right in the middle of an area where that is being aggressively done will—I think—allow me to be considered very special when compared to other accounting and business consulting firms.

Robinson and his wife, Cynthia, have restored other buildings in Petersburg and are currently restoring the Jacob Luther Clapdore Residence/Office (ca. 1813) at 509 and 511 Plum Street, about one block from the new satellite office.

“I’ve been told that the renovation of the Clapdore Residence/Office is one of the most unusual private restoration projects to be going on in the entire State of Virginia right now. The fact that I will be able to meet with a client to advise them professionally about restoring and renovating old buildings and can walk them one block away to talk about the successes and failures of what I did personally will be a great opportunity.”

The accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA was founded in 1990 by David Robinson with five clients. The firm has over 1,275 today with two offices and four employees and is the largest accounting firm in Midlothian.
