Richmond, VA - David B. Robinson, owner of David B. Robinson Certified Public Accountants & Consultants, in Midlothian, VA has been named Virginia Accountant Advocate of the Year for 1998 by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

David Robinson is among 12 top Virginia small business persons who will be honored by the SBA and the Small Business Awards Foundation, Inc., during an Awards Luncheon at the Marriott Hotel in Richmond, VA on June 5, 1998. The Honorable James S. Gilmore, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia will be the luncheon guest speaker and will present awards to Robinson and the other awards recipients. Charles J. Gaston, District Director of the SBA's Virginia Office said, "David Robinson brings passion and enthusiasm to the profession in all of his volunteer activities and in his efforts to improve the economic climate for small business. Robinson exemplifies excellence in entrepreneurship that is to be respected and emulated."

David Robinson prides himself on offering passionate-dedicated tax preparation, reviews, compilations, business consulting and most any other accounting service for individuals and businesses. The firm provides a wide variety of services with solutions oriented assistance depending on the client's specific needs. The firm is small enough to give clients personal attention, but large enough to offer quality service with the accounting and consulting experience they demand.

David is a strong proponent of regulatory reform and a reduction of the financial requirements experienced by some small businesses. He has attempted to influence local tax legislation through passionate discussions with elected officials.

Robinson advocates developing a good relationship with clients and addressing their financial needs which lead up to their tax returns and not just their tax returns. He encourages clients to reinvest in the community in which they do business and to contribute wisely by selecting charities which are consistent to their beliefs.

David B. Robinson publishes a weekly newsletter called "Tax Fax" on the world wide web to advance knowledge of business principles and tax concerns for individuals and other accounting practitioners. Currently there are over 100 important "Tax Fax" documents available with topics concerning Tax Payer Rights, Raising Capital, Purchasing a Business and Selling your Product Globally.

Each year for the past 35 years, the president of the United States has issued a proclamation for the celebration of Small Business Week as a time when America salutes the achievements and economic contributions of the nation's 24 million small businesses. "To be chosen Virginia's Accountant Advocate of the Year from among the number of qualified candidates this year demonstrates the level and quality of support small businesses received from the efforts of David Robinson", said Gaston.

Gaston pointed out that David Robinson was judged on four basic criteria: volunteer time and energy outside of business duties to assist small firms, advocacy of a reduction of financial and regulatory requirements for small business, support for initiatives to promote legislation strengthening the financial health of small business, participation in other activities that exemplify the nominee's efforts to improve the economic climate for small business..

The U.S. Small Business Administration, established in 1953, provides financial, technical and management assistance to help Americans start, run, and grow their businesses. With a portfolio of business loans, loan guarantees and disaster loans worth more than $45 billion, SBA is the nation's largest single financial backer of small businesses. Last year, SBA offered management and technical assistance to more than one million small business owners. SBA also plays a major role in the government's disaster relief efforts by making low-interest recovery loans to both homeowners and businesses.

America's 23 million small businesses employ more than 50 percent of the private workforce, generate more than half of the nation's gross domestic product, and are the principal source of new jobs in the U.S. economy.
