David B. Robinson, CPA Scholarship Recipients

The accounting and business consulting firm of David B. Robinson, CPA is pleased to announce the award recipients of the 1998-1999 David B. Robinson, CPA Scholarship Program. This is the second year the Firm has offered college scholarships.

Scholarship applications were distributed throughout the Richmond-area community and to various colleges around the state. Candidates included college-bound high school seniors and current college students who intend to pursue a degree and career in business. Applicants were ranked upon certain criteria and were selected based upon length of commitment and quality of activities and awards, a clear statement of education and business goals and academic record.

The 1998-1999 scholarship winners are as follows:

Susan E. Monks is attending Virginia Tech this fall as a freshman pursuing a degree in Accounting Information Systems. Susan graduated from James River High School where she was varsity captain of the cheerleading team, a member of the chorus/show choir, and a council member of the German Club. Additionally, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the German Honor Society. She was also involved in the German Exchange Program and she received the Jefferson Book Award. Along with all her activities, she consistently maintained a high grade point average at James River.

Kristin R. Myers is a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University pursuing a degree in Accounting. She is a Sunday School pianist, Spanish translator at the Henrico County Health Department, and a member of the University Honors Program Activities. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America, and she received the Business Department Award two consecutive years.

Melinda A. Williams is a sophomore at Radford University pursuing a degree in Accounting. She has been a Resident Assistant, president of the Hall Council, involved in Public Speaking and an active church member. Some of her high school awards included Cross Country (Bronze medallist), Public Speaking (Silver medallist), Parliamentary Procedure (Bronze medallist) and Forestry (Bronze State Champion).

Rui Fernandes is attending James Madison University this fall as a freshman pursuing a degree in Finance. Rui graduated from Midlothian High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Drama Club, Marketing Club, Soccer Team and Volleyball Team. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and maintained a high grade point average.

The Firm’s principal, David B. Robinson, CPA, is a 1984 graduate of the University of Richmond and is the host of “The Entrepreneurs’ Hour” on All News 990AM every Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Robinson is a member of the Board of Directors of the Johns Foundation, a member of the Holocaust Education Subcommittee of the Jewish Federation of Richmond, and a member of the Advisory Board of both CommonWealth Bank and Bryant and Stratton College in Richmond. The Company is headquartered in the Historic Ivymont Manor House in Midlothian, with an additional office located in downtown Richmond. Robinson founded his accounting firm in 1990.

Robinson was recently selected by the U.S. Government’s Small Business Administration as the 1998 Virginia Accountant Advocate of the Year. He is a frequently-quoted source on entrepreneurial issues in Virginia and has appeared on radio and television programs.

For the academic year 1999-2000, Robinson’s firm will again increase the scholarship amount awarded.
